Meet 10th generation dairy farmer Melissa Greenbacker-Dziurgot! Her family owns and operates Brookfield Farm in Durham, Connecticut.
The Greenbacker’s trace their farm roots back to 1723 when their ancestors received a land grant from the King of England. The family has remained true to its roots for over 250 years.
We wanted to find out what dairy farmers do for fun…we caught up with Melissa and learned all about her love for Whitney Houston, some of her favorite hobbies, and other surprises!
Q&A with Melissa Greenbacker-Dziurgot:
MBTM: What do you like to do when you’re not on the farm?
MG: *Laughs* When I’m not on the farm, my husband has a motorcycle and we enjoy riding together, going out for a day-trip. We always seem to stop at an ice cream place to get some ice cream while we’re out and about. (Yum, same here!)
MBTM: Favorite Song?
MG: Oh my favorite song…hmmm it’s hard to pick just one. I have a favorite singer, Whitney Houston, I grew up in the 80s, I was in middle school and high school and I just love Whitney Houston’s voice. Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer…that’s a great song to sing. I sing when I’m milking the cows. *Laughs* (Lucky Cows! They get their own personal concert!)
MBTM: Favorite Meal?
MG: My favorite meal…hmmm I love Italian food, especially chicken parm with ziti or spaghetti or something like that. But I also love my mother’s turkey—like a Thanksgiving turkey dinner with gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing and corn—and the cranberry that slides out of the can, all that stuff! That might actually be my favorite—the turkey dinner that my mom makes, because I’ve had other turkey dinners and they’re good but not like moms. *Smiles* (Okay now we’re hungry…)
