Just because school is out for the summer doesn’t mean hunger goes away or that healthy meals aren’t available.
During the school year, students have access to school lunch, and often breakfast too, at a free, reduced or low cost. However, once school is out it can be hard to find and access locations in your community that can help young children and their families by providing them with summer meals. To find a location near you, call 1-866-3 HUNGRY or go to www.fns.usda.gov/summerfoodrocks.
Dairy is an important part of a healthy diet, and according to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, we should enjoy at least three servings of milk, cheese or yogurt a day. The summer meals program includes dairy as part of the meal to help ensure these recommendations are met.
